When Teyana Taylor's fans clicked play on her brand-new video, they likely weren't expecting to see pop icon Sir Elton John seated at a piano. And yet, there he was.
On Tuesday (Oct. 20), Taylor unveiled her new music video for "Lose Each Other," with a surprise guest appearance from the Rocket Man himself. Shot on a white sound stage, John appears throughout the video playing a black grand piano, as Taylor wears various angelic, couture garments before taking a seat next to the piano to perform alongside John.
In a statement released alongside the visual, Taylor spoke about how the idea of working with John suddenly became a reality. "'Lose Each Other' is such a special record for me, and I wanted the visual to feel just as big. I told my team ‘you know what would be dope? If I could have Elton John open the video on the piano,'" she said. "As we were working through treatment ideas and solidifying logistics for the video, an international phone number calls me ... and for a second I almost didn’t answer, but my intuition spoke, I answered. All I hear is …’Hello darling, it’s Elton. I’d love to do your video!’ I freaked out!”
John himself offered a comment on working with Taylor, saying that he was a fan of her latest LP The Album. "When Teyana Taylor released her debut album, I became a huge fan. She was a guest on my Rocket Hour and I fell in love with her original spirit," he said. "Aside from her brilliant music, Teyana is one of the most visually dazzling artists working in music today. So I jumped at the chance to be in her latest video 'Lose Each Other.'"
Along with starring in the video, Taylor also directed it herself, something she says made working with John even more thrilling. "Working with a legend like Elton was pure magic. I feel so honored to have worked with someone of such legendary stature. I am forever grateful to him for doing this for me," she said.
