Janelle Monáe Thinks 'It Would Be a Dream' to Play X-Men's Storm in an MCU Film

Throughout her career, Janelle Monáe has proven time and time again that she is a true triple threat -- she can clearly sing, her acting chops are excellent, and she's showcased her dance abilities on a regular basis. Now, she's got another title that she's ready to add to her resumé: superhero.

In an excerpt from her new interview with Empire, Monáe said that she is interested in playing Ororo Munroe, better known to X-Men fans as Storm, in an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film. The star said that she's even floated the idea of playing the character with Ryan Coogler, the director of Marvel's 2018 hit movie Black Panther.

“I definitely have thrown it out there,” Monáe said about her desire to appear in the upcoming sequel to Black Panther. “One of my dreams has always been to play Storm. I don’t know if she comes in Black Panther, but it would be a dream to have her in it."

Monáe went on to voice her respect for the other actresses who have portrayed the thunder-wielding character, including Halle Berry and Alexandra Shipp, and said that she would be honored to join their ranks. "A lot of women have played Storm and they’ve done an exceptional job, and I would love to be in that line of artists and get to do Storm justice,” she said.

Comic-book fans have pointed out that the sequel to Black Panther would be the perfect place for Marvel to include its first X-Men character following Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox. In past comics, Storm and T'Challa have not only worked together, but even been married.
