a song about growing up
I’ve had moments
with the mountains
painted pink and blue
I’ve had moments
with the mountains
frequency in tune
They stood above me
stern and proud
I know they found me rather much too loud
they held me still until they calmed me down
I’ve got moments
with my father
buried 6 feet down
We were toxic
I was lawless
he was much too loud
He stood above me
stern and cold
“One day you’ll understand when you get old
you’ll settle down and do just what you’re told”
Well now that I’m the wiser
I see just what he means
I’ve been up that mountain
and it brought me to my knees
oh well I’m weathered, bruised, and beaten to sweet humility
And hope he’s forgiven me
