When Doves Cry (Prince Cover)

Beyond The Purple Skies

When Doves Cry

This feels like the song of our times to me.
It’s so simple.
One chord progression.
The original recording has no bass
And yet has there ever been a better recording?
Today marks the fifth anniversary of Prince
Leaving us
Or joining us
Becoming one with our consciousness for eternity
He always was
Inevitable and supernatural
Like Jesus
Like something ethereal and yet more real
Than reality.
But this song speaks to the human condition
So clearly and so concisely
That it travels into the personal
so deeply
That it spreads
like a shotgun blast
To the universal and even political.
Why do we scream at each other
This is what it sounds like when doves cry
A voice from Minneapolis-no less.
Rest In Peace purple majesty
Thank you for all you gave
And for guiding us even now
From beyond the purple mountains
And beyond the purple skies
