Simeon, a just and devout man of Jerusalem, is spending all his time in the temple hoping to see the Messiah, as the Holy Spirit said he would. While studying by candlelight how the prophets describe the One who is coming – the Messiah, he hears over his shoulder an angelic chorus singing “Jehoshua” about the name of the Messiah, which in Hebrew is “Jehovah saves,” and from which we get “Jeshua,” which is Jesus’ name, “Salvation.”
