Flashlight (a true story) - a song by Ingrid Graudins

On “Ingrid Graudins” day two Nashville workshops ago, I asked if Ingrid would share one of her own songs. She sang this one: “Flashlight, a true story.”

She kind of “aww shucksed” about it – it was just an exercise for a songwriting group.

Every person in the room was transfixed. I, of course couldn’t stop crying. I begged her to send me a demo just so I could hear it again. And again. And again.

I cried then. I’m definitely crying now.

It has all my favoritisms of Ingrid. The childlike wonder in her voice. The gorgeous instinct for chord changes. The simplicity and genius of the story. The perfect metaphor.

It is gut wrenchingly a propos of her passing. Her light will never die.

Kellie Lin Knott made this beautiful video to accompany Ingrid’s song.

I hope you love it as much as I do, and will share Ingrid’s voice far and wide.

It’s still hard to believe I will never get to sing with her again.

I love you Ingie, and will miss you forever.

But I will always have this song.
