#100daysofpractice day 33. “Don’t play what you want to play, play what you *need* to play”. A game I came up with inspired by my time with Lee Konitz. The idea is to take dictation from my ear — to only play what is arising organically from inside, and nothing else, using singing as the filter for what’s needed and what’s not. I find keeping my eyes open helps to keep it real. It’s more of a spiritual exercise than anything else, and I hadn’t practiced it in a while. I didn’t manage to fully capture its spirit here, but it felt really good to dive back in.
