"Dr. Norm" - Dave Koz

In his new documentary, Dr. Norm, filmmaker Ben Kadie reveals the shocking truth about GRAMMY®-nominated saxophonist Dave Koz, who just celebrated his 30th anniversary as a recording artist: There is no Dave Koz. The short film exposes Koz as a fictional character, created by veteran British actor Sir Richard Leighton.

Kadie – who helmed the variety series “Cory Wong and the Wongnotes,” which the Minneapolis Star Tribune hailed as “funny and unstoppably funky” – gained unprecedented backstage access to the British actor/musician as he prepared for the video shoot for the latest Koz single, “Dr. Norm” ft. Paul Jackson, Jr. As Sir Leighton is unmasked as the man behind the smooth jazz legend, he finds his own career at a turning point. Will he hang up his sax?

According to the Koz mythology, “Dr. Norm" is both an ode to Dave’s late father, Dr. Norman Koz, and a nod to the new family business, (Dr. Norm’s) which adds cannabis to the beloved recipes of Dave’s late mom, Audrey Koz, who was a pharmacist and baker.

“Dr. Norm” is from A New Day, released in the fall of 2020 as Sir Leighton privately celebrated his 30th year of playing the Koz character. The album reached the No. 1 position on numerous jazz charts, including iTunes and Amazon.
