For those of you unfamiliar with the Netherlands music world, Boudewijn is a true legend. A fierce social critic, he followed a string of hit records by walking away from live performing to give himself the time he needed, in order to become a better artist. A "comeback" several years later led to one of his biggest hits, while yet another purported comeback eventually gave him international recognition. (Does this sound familiar? Sometimes I feel Boudewijn and I have lived our professional lives on the same track.) In 2016, at the age of 72, he formed a supergroup and did a bunch of sold-out tours, releasing his next album two years later.
To say it's an honor that he took the time and effort to translate and record this song would be an under-statement. I am forever grateful to him, not only for his work, but for the way he's lived his life.
