Stand Your Ground

📽 by @grizzlyguy

Coyotes are masters of strategy, and when they decide to go after bigger prey, they don’t rely on brute force. They wear it down, attack in shifts, and create chaos. This mule deer found itself in a dire situation, surrounded by a pack that was playing the long game. The tactic is simple: keep the prey spinning, make it panic, force a mistake.

But this deer didn’t flinch. Instead of fleeing, she turned the tables, using raw power to kick, lunge, and fend off every attempt to take her down. Coyotes are relentless, but they’re also pragmatic with burning energy on a fight they might not win is bad business. Eventually, they realized this deer wasn’t going to break. The pack backed off, knowing they’d wasted their shot.

Survival in the wild especially the Yellowstone ecosystem isn’t just about speed or strength. Sometimes, it’s about grit. And today, the deer proved that standing your ground can mean the difference between life and death.
