Here’s a true story that I’ve never told publicly.
Just 2 years before I met Thara, I was in a dark place in my life.
I had left my label due to creative differences and with no promise of another record deal, decided to go independent.
That resulted in months of anxiety. I was jaded, lost, afraid and very quickly losing faith that things were gonna work out. I still had shows coming in, but I wasn’t sure what the next step was gonna be.
That’s when fate led me to a concert in Miami where I met Thara.
She was an artist at the time, and was my opening act for the show.
We clicked instantly, and I couldn’t figure out why or how that happened so fast. But things were still complicated for me and it led to months of back n forth communication, until I finally made the brave step of flying to NY to hang out with her (under the pretense that I was coming there to “work with her producer”)😜.
That trip was a month long and we fell in love. Incidentally, I DID work with her producer, Jeremy Skaller which ended up being a lifelong partnership to this day - we made a bulk of “My own way” album together, “All or nothing” album together and led to me getting signed to Cash Money, where we continued to make all those big hits together.
Oh and by then I had officially moved to America. All because I fell in love with this girl. Thara.
She was the inspiration behind the songs “Maybe”, “Stay”, “Universe” and now my latest song, “Incomplete”.
All these songs are about her. And she continues to inspire me till today.
I hope you enjoy this song. It means a lot to me. Sometimes you don’t know what’s around the corner- the light that leads you out of a dark place, and makes you feel whole again.
But it’s there! You just don’t know it yet.
