Memory Mondays - Luke 1:37

Advent is here!!! This is the season where we remember the story of God and that for so long, people were waiting for the Messiah. This week’s Memory Monday is a beautiful promise spoken by the angel Gabriel to Mary. The angel has just told Mary that she would be with child, that she would carry the very son of God and name him Jesus. She is mystified by this since she is a virgin, and this verse is Gabriel’s response to her question. Gabriel also explains that her cousin, Elizabeth, who is aged in years, is 6 months pregnant with John the Baptist. “For with God nothing is impossible.”

I’m so grateful that sometimes God gives us a glimpse of where we are going before we go there. Mary was receiving some pretty wild news that she carried the Messiah in her womb, as an unwed, teen mom. I love that her cousin Elizabeth was just a bit further down the road, far too old to get pregnant, one would think , but this verse comes crashing into reason and logic with this mysterious nature of God.
How beautiful. God is bigger than we think, and yet made Himself to be so small. I love that God enters the scene of this broken weary world as an infant. It’s backwards and upside down, but I’m reminded once again that “nothing is impossible for God.” May this season be full of moments where you are able to get quiet and make room for the story of how God does impossible things.
