One positive thing to come out of the quarantine period for me was falling in love again with 60s/70s acoustic folk music. The sounds of Nick Drake, Sandy Denny and John Martyn accompanied me on my daily ‘keep sane’ walks. It wasn’t long before my writing started tending towards these simpler finger picked styles - where there’s no production to hide behind and how someone performs/feels the song is almost more important than the actual song. I heard the song instantly as a duet when I wrote it and I knew the fabulous Laura Jean Anderson was the only one to sing it with. I decided recording it live, together in one take was the only way to capture that same feeling of those old folk records that had kept me going on those long lockdown walks. Luckily on take 2 of 5 I think we managed to capture that feeling. I hope you enjoy the song.
