40 years ago on February 14, 1985, Arista Records released Whitney’s debut album — ‘Whitney Houston’ and, as they say, the rest is history!
After a 56-week climb, the album reached #1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart on March 8, 1986 where it remained for 14 weeks. It is one of the best-selling albums of all time — certified 14x Platinum by the RIAA in 2023, which includes a Diamond certification. It produced three #1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, with over 25 million in worldwide sales. It is the best-selling debut album by a solo artist and garnered Whitney her first GRAMMY for Best Pop Performance, Female for “Saving All My Love For You” (she is the only artist to receive an Emmy for her performance of the song on the show)! The album is listed on Rolling Stones’ 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Stay tuned for more as we celebrate Whitney’s ‘40 Years of Excellence’ this year.
