Poulenc Sacred Music
Collegium’s recording offers an extensive selection of Poulenc’s sacred choral music with the Gloria as centrepiece. Videntes stellam was written in 1951.

Videntes stellam Magi gavisi sunt gaudio magno:
Et intrantes domum obtulerunt
Domino aurum thus et myrrham.
(Magnificat antiphon for the octave of the Epiphany)

The wise men, when they saw the star, rejoiced greatly:
And, when they were come into the house,
they presented unto the Lord gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

John Rutter, English composer and conductor, is associated with choral music throughout the world. His recordings with the Cambridge Singers (the professional chamber choir he set up in 1981) have reached a wide global audience, many of them featuring his own music in definitive versions. Among John’s best-known choral works are Gloria, Requiem, Magnificat, Mass of the Children, and Visions, together with many church anthems, choral songs and Christmas carols.
