Two years ago we chose AJ Mitchell for our Vevo LIFT program, which touts the work of talented newcomers who are about to make a sizable impact on the music biz; Billie Eilish and Doja Cat are among its ranks. Mitchell’s selection was due to the strength of his ‘Hopeful’ EP, and before that, a string of YouTube hits that were preceded by “Used to Be,” his indie release at age 13 that earned more than 50 million streams. At the ripe old age of 20, Mitchell is now a total music pro. But somehow the R&B-adjacent singer hadn’t released a proper debut studio album. ‘SKYVIEW’ fixes that, arriving along with a Vevo studio performance of “Maybe” and “Cheap Red Wine,” a title which reminds us that our man is growing up right in front of our eyes.
