Tu Balval - Piroska Racz and Euegene Hutz

April 8 is here! The Internation Day of Romany nation! Yes, yes, Sometimes they still call them Gypsies. Did you know? Without a country of their own for centuries they manage to preserve their astounding ways and culture dispite discrimination and genocide. Oh what a such a perfect day to reinforce spring powers of renewal with a shout out to the Romanys, the Roma, The Gypsies, the great maveriks of resiliance. So lets get it . Te aven Baxtale, Romale! Latcho Romano Dives! Maximum respect and But Pakiv! ✊🏼🔥
To Celebrate the source of our inspiration , Аuthentic Romany music, here is for you two oldie gypsy songs . Both are composed by Romanys of Ukraine and Russia and passed from one gypsy bonfire to another for over a 100 years. The First one «Nane mande rodo” ( “I aint got family or flock”) is a heavy lament of displacement and dispossesion , the second one is “Tu Balval ! “ ( “Hey there , you Wind ! “ ) is a bonfire stomper to disperse the former.
And It is our pleasure to re-introduce to you our NYC treasure Piroska Racz , a Romany singer and performer of undeniable authenticity and unending power , whos roots also go back to Hungary and Vollynja , Ukraine. As some of you may rememmber Piroska was a huge part of the early Gogol Bordello days and performed with us a good dozen of times bringing her personal style and duende like no other. Most importantly — Piroska is simply a real deal star in her own right. It was so fantastic to sing togeather again.
