Singing your own song on stage is always special. Jiya Lage Na from the film #talaash , by @ramsampathofficial & written by @jaduakhtar . I recorded this in the studios in the presence of both of them and pretty much wrapped up the recording like I was singing it live, very few revisits or ‘punch ins’ as we call it in studio lingo. I think it was recorded in fifteen odd minutes with Ram insisting that I keep it raw and live rather than overthink considering it was a song I could sing in my dreams . Why? You tell me :) I grew up loving the thumri as a genre for more reasons than one, had met Ram when we were both aged 26 while he was working on an album, LETS TALK Thumri’s in a Urban Soundscape and somehow this marriage of drum & bass and the love and longing of the genre is something I believe I can do Justin’s to like very few can . It became such a wonderful gift for my live stage. I start my shows very often with this song because of the glorious shift from the aCapella quiet section of the start to the drama of the beats juxtaposed .. also @iamrupadhyay was the winner voice after my trials for the male section of the song.
