Lifelong friend, mentor, teacher, storyteller, genealogist, relative… Jim St. Clair was so much to so many and all of these to me and my family. Harvard educated with a steel trap memory and razor-sharp intellect, Jim manifested the quiet confidence of a humble, country gentleman. For us, he was a steadfast constant and greatest champion through life’s ups and downs.
The letters and stories he shared informed my writing and were the genesis of songs like Orangedale Whistle, This is the Hour and Colorado Dave. One of the last of the Mull River gang, Jim – you will be greatly missed.
