George's Journal - Day 40: Musical Milestones and Mini-Golf Misadventures

February 9th, 2024

Forty days deep into this journey, and today feels like a marker of progress and potential. The air is thick with the promise of new beginnings, punctuated by the thrilling news of our first paid gig in the US! We're set to play at the Australia NRL Fan Fest in Las Vegas—a gig that promises not just a much needed paycheck, but an electric atmosphere and a chance to do our thing and perform our music in the USA.

The day's work continues with Colin, diving back into our creation "Whoops" and fleshing out "Grown Up Street," the piano piece that's been simmering in the back of my mind. It's a day of notes and chords, of melodies slowly finding their form, turning ideas into anthems.

Seeking a break from the grind, Puttshack becomes our evening retreat. There, alongside Jon Butterworth, Sean Beck, and their significant others, Brittany and Lana, we trade in our instruments for some putters. It's an evening where laughter echoes off the walls, and the competitive spirit of mini-golf giving us a chance to enjoy our Friday evening.

The night then takes us to Saint Anejo, where the tacos are apparently some of the best in the city. It's these moments of camaraderie, of shared meals and shared dreams, that knit us all closer, turning band mates into family.

But as all tales of nights out go, there's a twist—returning to Jon's car to discover a parking ticket flapping like a bad omen under the windshield wiper. It's a sobering end to an otherwise vibrant day, a reminder that for every high note, there's a flat one waiting around the corner.

Yet, as Day 40 wraps up, the spirit of the journey remains undimmed. From the high of gig announcements to the lows of parking fines, it's all part of the rich tapestry of this adventure. Here's to more music, more milestones, and the occasional mini-golf misadventure.

Until tomorrow,
