Pat McGee Band - Fire On The Mountain - Rebecca

PMB never once practiced a cover. Hell, we didn’t practice period. We chose to figure it out on the stage. Any cover song we played morphed from some moment that someone (usually me) started and we all threw in our take on it. Lyrics were rarely correct and tempos varied. It was always about the moment and just going with it. Point in case, this video snippet of me opening a show, (I have no idea where or when this is), playin around with “Fire On The Mountain”... clearly ending up in a hyper speed Rebecca. But that’s what Jim Beam will do to an evening of music.

John and CW (and likely Al) didn’t have the Grateful Dead admiration like Chardy, JBW and I do, so I always found it fun to essentially force them to play along to my random noodlings. They probably didn’t even know what the hell I was up to until the choruses. (Truth be told, I didn’t either, and still don’t.)

What always ended up was the drums and bass put their own stamp on it. I miss that big time. Can’t wait to get back on stage and noodle away. This time with more hot licks and less Beam.
