George's Journal - Day 85: Final Farewells

March 26th, 2024

Today was filled with the bittersweet tasks of packing and preparing to fly back to Nashville. While the thought of boarding that long-haul flight was less than thrilling, the day was sprinkled with moments that made the impending departure a bit more bearable.

I had another wonderful conversation with Baba, who never fails to enrich my days with her positivity. Amidst our packing, she and Emma had a humorous skirmish over household clutter, a light-hearted dispute that reminded me of the family dynamics I'm going to miss.

Seizing the last day with my wife, I picked her up from work and we escaped to our favourite spot—Harvey's—for one last lunch together in Brisbane. It was a precious time to connect and savour before the chaos of travel.

In an unexpected twist, I found myself lacing up for a run—the first in five years! With the rain setting a dramatic backdrop, what started as a reluctant agreement turned into a cherished adventure, jogging through the showers with my wife.

The evening brought us together with friends at The Waterloo, our local pub, for a farewell dinner. It was a heartwarming gathering, filled with laughter and goodbyes, encapsulating the love and support of the community we have here.

As I head to bed, the suitcase stands ready by the door, and my heart is heavy yet hopeful—grateful for the memories made and anticipating the adventures that await in Nashville.

Until tomorrow,

G.Shep xx
