The Northern Pikes Unveil Acoustic-Driven Revamp of Title Track from Platinum Snow In June.
The legendary Northern Pikes, whose classic catalog of songs continue reverberating across Canadian pop culture, have released an acoustic-oriented version of the title track from its 1990 Platinum-selling Snow In June. It’s the final single ahead of the release of TIME to TIME, The Pikes’ new album that also acoustically-revisits many other revered tunes from the original LP.
“Snow In June” is the most mercurial and complex piece in the band’s oeuvre. The TIME to TIME version builds on the original, serving as the most produced track on the otherwise stripped-down record. The Pikes snuck some electric guitar and electronics into it, making it the centerpiece of the upcoming album.
“This is my favourite outcome from TIME to TIME,” said Bryan Potvin, lead guitarist and vocalist on the track. “We didn’t mess with the structure of the song, but the choice of instruments, including dobro, mandolin, and banjo, gave it a different overall feeling. We chose to go beyond the acoustic focus on this one and let our co-producer, John D.S. Adams, and keyboardist Glenn Patscha spin their magic on it. In some ways, I now prefer this version to the original.”
