Underrated bassist Alphonso Johnson cuts loose for a virtuoso funk solo during a gig with trumpeter Chuck Mangione that took place on June the 5th in 1973 at the Jazz Workshop in Boston. Rhythmic support is provided by drummer Joe La Barbera. It was killer performances like this that made Joe Zawinul hire Alphonso for the bass chair in Weather Report shortly thereafter.
