As an actress, Olivia Holt has had a lot of parts. Superhero. Abducted “it” girl. But arguably the role the 23-year-old wunderkind plays best is popstar. She seems to think so too, having taken some time off from acting a little while back to focus on her music career. 2019’s “DISTANCE” collab with Nicky Romero kicked off things, marking an influx of EDM and mature pop sounds into her discography. Music fans responded in a big way to bangers like “love u again” with R3HAB and “talk me out of it.” The Tennessee-born mega-talent who says she “likes to keep busy” didn’t stay away from acting for too long. She stars on Freeform channel’s hit show ‘Cruel Summer.’ And when you’re as talented as Holt, why not do both? Pop genius Meghan Trainor helped write “NEXT.” The rousing sax part and the track’s uncorked confidence definitely recalls “Lips Are Movin.” But this performance is all about Holt, whose voice really shines here; And she’s so comfortable in front of a camera. Exciting to watch a real duel threat work.
