I never read reviews of things, but someone who works for me posted a review of the album on my IG stories the other day,
it started w this sentence,

"although far from a household name... James vincent mc morrow has won critical acclaim and built up a sizeable fanbase for his rich blend of folk melodies and electronic rhythms"

i only saw the post because a lot of people responded to it saying "FAR from a household name!??" in defense of me, which is very sweet and lovely!

But the thing is, I am far from a household name, and that's ok. I'm not someone who was built to try and be a household name. Without sounding like an arse, name another musician on the planet who's gotten to do what I've done, make the music I've made, push it forward the way I've tried to push it forward, without the pressure and stresses that come with being a household name. There are some, but there aren't that many.

There's this prevalent idea that the only way to succeed is to succeed loudly, I disagree.
I've succeeded quietly, maybe in the beginning I wanted to succeed loudly because I thought it was the only way to do it, but quiet was what was needed, and it's what's given me the career I always wanted.

...This is a very long intro to this video😂😂

I started writing this song after leaving a really earnest meeting of very important music people in LA one day. i remember thinking "am i the only one who thought that we maybe were taking it all a little seriously?", i fucking love music and am obsessed with it, but it all just felt a little ...intense. I was standing at the junction of Hollywood & Vine, I looked around, and EVERYONE on the corner just looked so intense, like they were going somewhere infinitely more important than wherever I was going. No judgments on any of those people, I just felt quite out of place.

The song was written to remind myself that I am the person I know myself to be. That quiet is good, that the world is supposed to be a nuanced subtle place but can be very loud, so it's important to find the people and the situations that allow you to be nuanced and quiet as and when you want to be.

This version of the song is GLORIOUS. We recorded it in Grouse Lodge with my wonderful band, engineered by the inimitable Alex Borwick, directed by one of my faves Gar O Rourke.
