Trangpham - Creation Essay

The Genesis and Greek creation stories are both similar and different in how they use literary archetype.
Both the Greek and Genesis creation stories have the same archetype is villain. Because Cronus became a ruler and he was scares of the prophecy of Gaea and Uranus, “Cronus swallowed each of his children as they were born “(Greek Creation). This proves that Cronus is filling the role of the villain archetype. Then his lust for power is so great that he selfishly sacrifices his own children to keep the throne. In the Genesis, the serpent was used his words to seduced the human, “but life had changed when they listen to the serpent” (Genesis Creation). This quote conveys the villain who is antagonist was the serpent because the serpent said if woman eat it she can have the power like God. Also the serpent was the one who tried to impulse Eva to make her eat the forbidden fruit, but not end like that she still give it to her husband Adam and he ate. Therefore, these examples show both stories using the villain archetype.
The Genesis and Greek creation stories also contract with the former having an epic battle or father/ son and the latter a garden archetype. Uranus was bad father and husband, “Gaea and Cronus set up an ambush of Uranus as he lay with Gaea at night. Cronus grabbed his father and castrated him, with the stone sickle, throwing the severed genitals into the ocean. The fate of Uranus is not clear. He either died, withdrew from the earth, or exiled himself to Italy” (Greek Creation). This express about the father and son rivalry is beginning cause Cronus. Because Cronus became evil he castrated his father with a not so pleasant result, it was not clear if Uranus ran away to Italy or died. In the Genesis, in the beginning everything was dark and God was created the whole world from nothing,” God spoke: earth, green up! Grow all varieties of seed-bearing plants, every sort of fruit-bearing tree” (Genesis Creation). These lines show about the garden archetype cause where everything is perfect. At first God was the one who created the Earth and everything including all the trees and plants, fruits to provide for man and woman are able to eat? Thus, the Greek story shows the father/son rivalry and the Genesis story shows the garden archetype.
