From Taylor Swift to Drake, Here Are Yungblud's Best Covers & Mashups

Yungblud dropped by the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge this week, where he performed a goosebump-inducing mashup of Taylor Swift's folklore cut "cardigan" and Avril Lavigne's 2002 ballad, "I'm With You"-- and even got Swift's stamp of approval.

But the unlikely yet perfect choice of songs is hardly the first time the 23-year-old star has taken on covers of music outside his usual rocked-out genre and turned them into his very own style.

See below for eight more of Yungblud's best covers and mashups.

1. Drake’s “Best I Ever Had” / Arctic Monkey’s “Do I Wanna Know”

Drake and the Arctic Monkeys may seem on opposite sides of the musical spectrum, but Yungblud seamlessly blended the two in a 2019 BoxFresh session. The singer opened with Drake's first verse and chorus on piano, before diving into the sultry lyrics and guitar tones of "Do I Wanna Know."

2. Dua Lipa’s “New Rules” / Camila Cabello’s “Havana”

Yungblud mashed up two of 2017's biggest pop hits while performing at Studio Brussel in Belgium, switching them up by adding a slick guitar sound to his characteristically punk vocals.

3. Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello's "Señorita" / Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" / Travis Scott's "Goosebumps"

Speaking of Cabello, Yungblud edged up her romantic Mendes duet "Señorita" before emotionally diving into the dynamic "Back to Black" chorus. Backed by a string arrangement, the singer kept the party going by adding a haunting sprinkle of Scott's "Goosebumps."

4. The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights"

In this quarantine rendition of The Weeknd's party anthem, Yungblud used a vocoder to add a spaced-out element to one of 2020's biggest hits.

5. Oasis' "Champagne Supernova" with Machine Gun Kelly

Yungblud joined his pal MGK for one of the latter's "Lockdown Sessions" amid the coronavirus pandemic, and the duo took on Oasis' 1996 hit "Champagne Supernova" from their respective homes. The natural blend of the duo's voices raises the question as to why they haven't formed a band together yet.

6. Death Cab for Cutie's “I Will Follow You Into the Dark” with Halsey

The former flames performed the song for triple j's Like A Version, with Yungblud on piano for the romantic ballad.

7. The Rolling Stones' “Wild Horses”

For an episode of his The Yungblud Show, the star put together his own harmonies for the 1971 hit before adding acoustic guitar and delivering the melody, amplified by the acoustics in his bathroom.

8. The Who's "My Generation"

"People try to put us down / Just because we get around," Yungblud proclaims in the opening line of his The Who cover for Q107 Toronto. Backed by a full band, Yungblud's vocals create the perfect angsty tone for the rebellious track.
