5 Uplifting Moments in Latin Music This Week (November 7)

Christian Nodal’s YouTube milestone

After three years of making waves with “Adios Amor” that ultimately put him on the radar, Christian Nodal has officially entered YouTube’s Billion Views Club for the first time in his career. The heartfelt ranchera song surpassed 1 billion views on Friday, Nov. 6, joining other Latin artists in the prestigious list including J Balvin, Nicky Jam, Shakira and many more. To celebrate, the Regional Mexican artist changed the header image on his YouTube channel to a graphic that read: “One billion thank you’s” in Spanish.

Anitta returns to Netflix

After her successful 2018 docuseries Vai Anitta, Anitta returns to Netflix with Anitta: Made in Honório. This week, the official Netflix Brasil account shared a one-minute teaser for fans. “Anitta is a pop and funk music phenomenon. But behind each hit is Larissa, born and raised in Honório Gurgel and she’s ready to conquer the world,” reads the description. “She is not perfect and she knows it, so she makes a point of showing who Anitta is without filters in the documentary series Anitta: Made In Honório.” Earlier this year, the Brazilian superstar confirmed on The Late Late Show with James Corden that the second season of her docuseries was on the way. “We just finished editing the second season, so yes, it’s a wrap, it’s done!” she told Corden. “In the second season we’re going to talk more about my personal life, all the struggles I went through. It’s gonna be curious for everyone.”

Maluma & The Weeknd

In the midst of the heated presidential election, Maluma and The Weeknd surprised fans with their first-ever collaboration on “Hawai (Remix).” The Weeknd kicks off the remix by singing in English. “So now he’s your heaven? You’re lying to yourself and him to make me jealous/ You put on such an act when you’re sleeping together / All this cause I said I don’t want marriage,” he croons before flaunting the infectious chorus in Spanish. This also marks the first time the Canadian singer has sung in Spanish. Co-written by Maluma alongside Keityn, Edgar Barrera, and Bull Nene and produced by Rude Boy, the romantic urban bop, originally released in July, is about a relationship that couldn’t work out and one of the exes “moved on” but it’s all an act.
