Shirley Bassey - Eleanor Rigby (1995 Des O'Connor Tonight)

REMASTERED CLIP - Shirley Bassey performs this classic Beatles song, 'Eleanor Rigby' in her own unique commanding vocal style. Shirley performed this song on the Des O'Connor TV Show in 1995. On this show she also performed the song, 'Who Wants To Live Forever". She recorded and released this song as a track on her 1995 album titled, 'Shirley Bassey Sings the Movies'.

ABOUT This Song: "Eleanor Rigby" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1966 album Revolver. It was also issued on a double A-side single, paired with "Yellow Submarine". Credited to the Lennon–McCartney songwriting partnership, the song is one of only a few in which John Lennon and Paul McCartney later disputed primary authorship. Eyewitness testimony from several independent sources, including George Martin and Pete Shotton, supports McCartney's claim to authorship.

ABOUT Shirley Bassey Sings The Movies: In 1995, Bassey signed a deal with the PolyGram TV label, recording and releasing two albums with the label. The first was Sings the Movies, a themed album of movie songs. The songs were personally selected by Bassey for the album, and are a diverse range of ballads and pop classics; some were originally composed for original soundtracks, but several were classic songs that appeared in successful movies. One re-recording was made for the album: the classic James Bond theme "Goldfinger". This is the fourth studio recording of the song by Bassey. The album sold well across Europe and entered the UK Albums Chart on November 11, 1995 for a run of nine weeks, peaking at No. 24, and earning a gold disc.

LYRICS:
Eleanor Rigby picks up the rice from the church
Where a wedding has been, nobody sees
Sits in the window, wearing a face
That she keeps in a jar by the door, who is it for?
All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?
Father Mackenzie writing the words of a sermon
That no one will hear, no one comes near
Look at him working, darning his socks
In the night when there's nobody there, what does he care?
All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?
Oh, look at all the lonely people
Oh, look at all the lonely people
Eleanor Rigby died in the church
And was buried along with her name, nobody came
Father Mackenzie wiping the dirt from his hands
As he walks from the grave, no one was saved
All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
Oh, look at all the lonely people
Oh, look at all the lonely people
All the lonely people
Where do they all come from?
All the lonely people
Where do they all belong?
