Last fall, when YUNGBLUD became a Vevo LIFT artist, we described him like this: "He comes on like punk rock never died, delivering an attack that conjures both Johnny Rotten and Andrew WK. The roar of energy that marks his music can be blistering, and as his songs reveal their intentions, you find out that the 22-year-old has a dedication to fighting the power and putting the bad guys on blast." That signature roar was right up front in his LIFT performances, and it's there too in his latest official video, "Weird!." Our Footnotes series goes behind the scenes to reveal artists' and directors' creative inspirations. For "Weird!" he was both, co-directing with Tom Pallant. It was shot on an iPhone during quarantine in Venice, California. The song itself began as a poem, and was inspired by listening to Joy Division, The Cure, and LCD Soundsystem among other bands. YUNGBLUD says it describes "the euphoric feeling about learning something new about how the rest of my life is going to be."
