YOU WILL NEVER WALK ALONE
This hugely successful song is imbued with an innate charisma that elevates it to a composition that unites and warms the hearts of huge crowds. A kind of declaration of love and collective solidarity, this track reassures us that a “golden sky” awaits us after the storm. It was penned by the New York playwright Oscar Hammerstein (1895 – 1960) and the composer Richard Rodgers (1902 – 1979) for the musical “Carousel” which made its debut on Broadway in 1945. Due to the story of the musical that is inextricably linked to the song, in the United States it soon became a standard song sung at graduations. In the years that followed, it also arrived in the United Kingdom, with the Liverpudlian group “Gerry and The Pacemakers” recording a cover of the song in 1963. However, many other famous voices have also tackled this enthralling melody, which would also go on to become one of the most beloved songs in the history of soccer.
