“Ransom”, is a song ultimately about feeling stuck in a dysfunctional relationship and that moment in time when you’re scared of change. When you’re holding on before finally having the courage to end it. I see this video from so many perspectives. It is designed to be open to different interpretations while blurring the line between fantasy and reality. I read a number of treatments for video concepts but this one, by director Greg Hunt (known mainly for his beautiful Cat Power and skateboard vids), really spoke to me.
