The Crow Symbolizes Love

The first time I saw the crow
I was in West Virginia
About twelve years old
She flew so beautiful and high
Way up in that West Virginia sky
And so scared was I

But she flew away
Like a mysterious dream
And when she came back to me
I’d just turned seventeen
She fluttered and she cawed
And in the black of her eyes I saw
Myself as whom I’m supposed to be

And when the crow left again
I didn’t let my sadness show
But I stayed out all night drinking
Wondering where the hell’d she go
But all found is that crow don’t come around
When you don’t love your own self, you know
So many years passed by
Lines formed around my eye
Lord, I thought the crow had died

But then one day
As I was resting beneath a tree
I looked up in the sky
And suddenly there was she
And she dropped an appleseed
Into the gentle breeze
And it landed at my feet
And I buried that seed down
Way down in that warm soft ground
And I cared for it so faithfully

And nowadays
The crow is close to me
I hear her sometimes
But I don’t need to see
‘Cause up there she lives
And many many wonderful gifts she gives
Look here she gave me three
