The secret sign of a real punk is their ability to command the stage armed only with an acoustic guitar. Points for Jack Kays. It was the guitar in which the Cincinnati native found solace while battling addiction in his early 20s. Between shifts at restaurants (Kays is a trained chef who once sold homemade jam for income), he worked on his first song “GIN N JUICE.” All while working to get clean. Suddenly, it all came together. The emo-rap-tinged debut track caught fire across social media, especially on TikTok, which Kays has embraced as a forum for cooking tutorials and mental health discussion. He linked with a manager and Columbia records not long after that, where he’s released two EPs, debut album ‘MIXED EMOTIONS,’ and a collab project with Travis Barker. His raw and real acoustic anthems such as “BOTTOM OF THE BOTTLE” and “MY HEAD” are putting up pop song numbers on Spotify. There’s always a big audience for authenticity, and we think that’s exactly why folks will eat up this “Caffeine” performance.
