Rakim and I collaborated on an everlasting now classic hit in 1989 “Friends” from my second 💿 solo album -a groundbreaker crossover Top 10 on multiple charts- the Billboard Hot 100, R&B/Rap, and Dance Charts. I was and continue to be a huge fan and so this collaboration was everything-they were my only choice, and I’m forever thankful it happened!
We collaborated again in 1998 on the “Off The Hook” D-Dot remix and video shoot in NY.
I made a surprise appearance at Rakim’s book signing in LA at Book Soup in 2018 to say hello.
In June of 2020 during the pandemic lockdown- it was so special to be invited as a guest on their stream celebrating their “Let The Rhythm Hit ‘Em” 30 - we performed “Friends” live for the first time together!
2024 - Rakim posted a really nice comment on my IG a few days ago -when I shared that I had a new single “EVERLASTING” due January 30!
