Remember how OK Go’s new song “This” is the closing anthem of the Apple Original Film The Beanie Bubble, directed by our own Damian Kulash and his wife Kristin Gore?
The song and the film have gotten a lot of attention, and we were invited by Deadline to perform it WITH A FULL SYMPHONY at their fancy Deadline Sound and Screen concert a few weeks ago. We have to write FULL SYMPHONY in all capitals because it’s very rare and exciting for a rock band to get to play with a 75-piece orchestra, and you know how we are. We get very excited about this kind of thing.
Well, guess what? We recorded it, and soon there will be a limited run 12-inch PICTURE DISC vinyl featuring both versions of "This.” You surely know why PICTURE DISC is in all capital letters. Because, look: it’s a PICTURE DISC! The record features the band’s glorious spin art right on it, and when you play it on your turntable, you’re basically making your own DIY version of the cool animations that accompany the song on Apple Music or Spotify.
Side A is the studio recording of “This” that’s in The Beanie Bubble, available for the first time on vinyl.
Side B is the FULL SYMPHONY version of “This," performed live at UCLA’s vaunted Royce Hall.
