It's always good to connect with a legend. Dizzee Rascal has been impressing music fiends ever since his 'Boy in da Corner' album made the Londontown earth shake back in 2003. Bending elements of garage and jungle with fierce electronic grooves, he helped create a unique blend that anticipated modern grime while casting the UK scene as a hotbed of hip-hop action. The then 18-year-old Bow rapper with the Nigerian dad and Ghanaian mom delivered regal rhymes, like these "Stop Dat" bars: "I got sick flows, makin' MCs have to walk on tip toes/Where did I stay last night? I think his chick knows." 'Boy In Da Corner' proudly went on to pick up the Mercury Prize that year, and Dizzee kept moving forward with gems such as 'ShowTime,' 'Tongue N' Cheek,' and 'The Fifth,' his OG stature resonating further with each project. Last week he gave us his eighth studio album, 'Don't Take It Personal,' and yes, it packs his signature punch. To celebrate its arrival, we invited him to our ctrl series, where he not only stepped up to the mic to share spins on "What You Know About That" and "You Can Have Dat," but took us on a mini tour of local spots that helped shape his career, including Bethnal Green's Slider Cuts barber shop. Watch him choppin' it up with his friend and mentor D Double E along the way; check him reporting on the music industry with his mate JME - there are lots of revealing conversations braided through these hot performances. We're thrilled to extend our Ctrl series into a documentary-style short film that highlights an important artist's musical history. Time to get a look at Dizzee Rascal 2024.
