Seminal track, composed by Ray Davies for English rock band The Kinks. Released in the UK on 4 August 1964 as The Kinks’ third single. Became the band’s breakthrough hit, reaching number 1 in the UK charts and number 7 in the US later in 1964, establishing them one of the top British Invasion acts there. Featuring the innovative Dave Davies distorted, power-chord guitar riff, often credited with creating the heavy rock sound. Later included on the Kinks' debut album Kinks (October 1964).
