Think of hip-hop collectives and one’s mind is liable to conjure BROCKHAMPTON, Odd Future or the A$AP mob. How about OG hip-hop crews from the Bay Area? The pioneering Hieroglyphics, of course. From that lineage comes AG Club, the red-eyed rap squad comprised of NorCal buddies repping all different sorts of backgrounds. “Everybody’s in the club,” quipped founding member Baby Boy during a Lollapalooza interview in 2021. “If you believe you are, you are.” A year prior, the club had struck gold with “MEMPHIS,” a trunk-rattling banger constructed around an obscure Yo Gotti sample. Like most of their visuals, the corresponding video seamlessly integrated each member’s individual personality in a way that made any viewer feel welcome to the party. In the remix video, star rhymers A$AP Ferg and NLE Choppa blended right in. “[Music videos are] another thing that we really like to go crazy with,” Baby Boy has said. Whether they’re channeling their inner rockstar on “TRU RELIGION” or bouncing flows off a parking lot full of sports cars in “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” unchecked creativity remains the constant. On their YouTube channel, they dubbed 2023 tour vlogs ROAD2COACHELLA. After playing the famed Indio festival, dropping their strong ‘Imposter Syndrome’ album last year, and rocking our ctrl series, they might feel forced to cap membership. But for now everyone can join the club.
