Gold On The River (Subtitled Version)

Gold On The River (Subtitled Version) - Originally recorded for The Unconquerable Past (2019), this version is from my album "Vejpoesi" (2023). The song is built around the image of sunset on a river - a metaphor for the passage of time and the evolution of a relationship. This is a superb example of how The Sentimentals inhabit my songs and bring something fresh and new to the original reading.

Maskinhallen Sessions May 24th – 25th 2022: These songs were recorded and filmed live-off-the-floor over two days in Frederikshavn, Denmark. The Maskinhallen is an old electricity generating station up at the northern tip of Jutland. Special thanks to Jens Ole Amstrup - musical director and head of development who generously opened his doors to us for the duration. The sessions were a chance to reconnect with good pals after two years of pandemic lockdown and difficult isolation from live music and the friendship of the road.

Stephen Fearing & The Sentimentals: In 2018 I was introduced to The Sentimentals by American singer/songwriter Jonathan Byrd and shortly thereafter found myself on a 10 date tour of Denmark with the acclaimed trio. What started as a typical solo-artist-with-backup-band has blossomed into an enduring collaboration and friendship between the four of us. In May of 2022, when lockdowns restrictions were easing around the world, we traveled to Frederikshavn at the northern tip of Denmark and recorded six songs and three videos over three days. Five of those songs make up Side 1 of Vejpoesi ( which means “road poetry” in Danish).
