The Accident | Diving In Deep with Sara Evans Ep. 04

In this episode of Diving in Deep, recording artist Sara Evans recounts an event that nearly ended her life. Eight-year-old Sara, while living on her family farm in rural Missouri, took her motorcycle down the long driveway to get the mail. She passed the pond, which was against the Evans' rule for the children, but she vowed to herself to be careful. Looking both ways, she heard a car off in the distance, but she was certain she could make it across the highway. The last thing she remembers is seeing the color blue, which she later found was the car that hit her.

She was thrown 90 feet, and everyone on the scene though she was dead.

She awoke in the hospital after being comatose for three days and had to have multiple surgeries in the weeks to follow.  Sara does not shy away from how much impact that day had on her life, and she digs in to how it still affects her now.

As a mother to three children herself, Sara recalls these moments with an added weight on her heart. Being a parent means letting a piece of your soul live outside of your body, always vulnerable. It's in these moments that Sara remembers the importance of humility and emphasizes how leaving her ego at the door is what gets her through the ever-changing role of being a parent.
