1993: The original lineup of Reel Big Fish breaks up over disagreements in the musical direction of the band. Later that year after a failed attempt at starting a new solo project, Aaron, Matt, Andrew and Eric reform with a new sax player Steve, all new songs and Aaron on lead vocals.
This is the 2nd ever performance of “Reel Big Fish the Ska Band” at the “Big Black Room (AKA Butt Cave)” in Santa Ana, CA Opening for Suburban Rhythm on October 9th, 1993
Fun Facts:
*Yes, Matt Wong is wearing a Hawaiian shirt and Aaron isn’t. Weird right!?
*this is a few years before Scott Klopfenstein joined the band so Matt and Andrew were handling the background vocals at the time.
*“Don’t Remind Me” was a rare original, written and sung by our bass player Matt Wong.
* “Till I Hit The Ground” and “Superhero#5” were “old” songs that we used to play with the original lineup. Super Hero #5 was the first ska song written by RBF.
* Most of these songs were on a self titled demo, for some reason re-named by the internet “Return of the Mullet” We didn’t call it that.
* Within a few months after this show we wrote “Beer”, I Want Your Girlfriend”,“I’ll Never Be”, “Fuck Yourself” and other favorites from the “Everything Sucks” album which kicked most of these songs we performed at the first couple of shows as a ska band off the setlist and into obscurity.
*the opening song “We’re SO Ska” later became “Don’t Stop Skankin” (TWENTY years later in fact!)
*This venue was a recording studio with a big live room that threw small concerts and recorded the band’s performance. The multi-track audio starts after “We’re So Ska” We’re not sure why the first song wasn’t recorded
