FKA Twigs Has Completed a Brand New Album During Quarantine

FKA Twigs has made good use of her time amid the coronavirus lockdown.

During an interview for the Grammy Museum's Programs at Home series, the 32-year-old British artist revealed to moderator Scott Goldman that she has completed a brand new album while being stuck indoors during the pandemic.

“It was one-third of the way through and I just said, ‘You know what, I’m just going to make an album,’ and I just went and did it,” Twigs said during the virtual interview. "I'm just sort of finishing it now."

The singer-songwriter's last album, Magdalene, arrived last November. The nine-track set, her second release, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart.

Twigs said she primarily worked Spanish producer El Guincho to write the new as-yet untitled album over FaceTime. Other collaborators included songwriters Billy Walsh and Ali Tamposi.

“I was working with people I’d never met in real life and we were doing the whole thing over FaceTime and it was great because I couldn’t go in the studio at the beginning,” she explained, noting that the time difference between the U.K. and U.S. allowed her to work day and night.

Twigs said she prefers collaborating on new music in person, but that she has "embraced" this new way of writing.

"I managed to find a sense of community over the Internet, which is unusual for me. I'm not a very Internet-y person," she said.

Twigs added that being in quarantine has allowed her to explore new interests, such as learning how to read music and practicing the piano.
