George's Journal - Day 54: Beautiful Nothing

February 23rd, 2024

Today began with a harsh awakening – a full-blown sickness threatening to dampen the final songwriting session of our LA journey. Amy and I, exhausted from the whirlwind of creativity and travel, knew we had to summon every ounce of determination and passion to make this day count.

Our destination was a magnificent haven. Simon Oscroft, a kiwi producer who was also the caretaker of a beautiful sanctuary nestled in the heart of the LA hills. The house exuded serenity, a Zen retreat designed to inspire creativity. As we soaked in the breathtaking rooftop views, our minds began to drift into the realm of musical possibilities.

The studio buzzed with excitement when a surprise visitor graced our session – Alisa Xayalith, the lead singer of The Naked and Famous. Despite our inner fangirling, we maintained composure and engaged in conversations that blended admiration with professionalism.

Our creative journey took twists and turns as we explored folky ideas, searching for the perfect vibe that would capture the essence of this momentous final session. After a few pivots, we struck gold with "Beautiful Nothing," a soul-stirring ode to the need for solitude amidst life's chaos. This experimental departure quickly became a favorite, its lush melodies and introspective lyrics resonating deeply.

With spirits lifted and new music in hand, we retreated for a night of tacos, burritos, and sharing our newfound creation with friends. As the evening wound down with a movie, we reflected on the harmony found in chaos, the beauty of creation born from collaboration, and the anticipation of what awaits in Vegas.

Until tomorrow,
